We believe you deserve the very best. The best quality. The best service. And advice you can trust. It has been this way since The Mufflerman opened its first Canadian owned and operated location back in 1964.
All of our locations are company owned, not franchised.
That means we can direct every aspect of our operation, from hiring the managers and mechanics that you deal with, to buying only the best possible products to be installed on your vehicle. We feel that the only way we can ensure your satisfaction is to have tight controls over everything that you look for.
Our policy of routinely inspecting your braking, exhaust, steering, drive train and suspension systems means that you’ll always get straight answers on exactly what the underside of your car needs, and a written estimate of precisely what it would cost to repair it. There’s no surprises at The Mufflerman, and you’ll never leave with the feeling that maybe you didn’t fully understand what we did to your car, or why we did it.
We've been in business since 1964. That's given us plenty of time to figure out exactly what makes a happy customer. We're more than just mufflers, we truly are "Your Complete Auto Service Specialists."
All of our technicians regularly attend seminars and special training to keep up with the latest changes in techniques and technologies. Our Store Managers have extensive experience with several dedicating over 30 years to their positions.
As our business has grown, we have not forgotten our beginnings. Today, our friendly and knowledgeable staff continues the tradition of providing you with the best. We guarantee you quality, service, and trust - first time… all the time. That's our promise to you.
Our dad, John Brouwer, immigrated with his family from The Netherlands in the early 1950’s. In the early days, Dad had many jobs. He worked at the CNR Railroad, Purity Dairy, his own 7UP business in Lambton County, and at Cor Car Auto Sales in Sarnia selling, painting and repairing cars. The Mufflerman was a part of this business.
Destined to be an entrepreneur, in 1964, Dad purchased The Mufflerman name and moved it to a small, two-bay garage that would become Sarnia's "First Exclusive Muffler Shop." In 1967, he purchased property at 759 Exmouth Street and built a new, modern shop that The Mufflerman could call home.
He opened a second location in Stratford in 1971 and grew it to 12 company-owned and operated locations in Southwestern Ontario. Although his success as a businessman is evident today, Dad maintained a very down-to-earth approach to life. Lending a helping hand to people who needed it was something he truly enjoyed doing, and this eventually led him to start his own foundation, The John Brouwer Foundation.
In 1996, Dad retired from the business, leaving it to us, his sons, and his nephew, to carry on the tradition. We always said that although working in a family business came with challenges, we would not trade the experience for anything. We keep tight controls on every aspect of the business to ensure our customers receive the best quality, the best service and advise you can trust. Quality, Service, and Trust (QST) are all concepts that Dad lived by and our customers will experience them every time they visit us at The Mufflerman.
